Regular price $279.00Our wildly popular Hydros® fly-fishing reel now makes its debut as a fully caged European nymphing machine. Given this style of fishing heavily leans on impossibly thin running line or monofilament for casting, we’ve modified our Hydros II into a Euro version with a full cage and tightened the tolerances to completely eliminate lines from slipping between spool and frame. We’ve also increased the reel’s weight slightly to better balance with the 10' and 11' rods so common in Euro circles. Again, we set out to make the best Euro reel, and we ended up creating an absolute machine, complete with the same forward-thinking attributes of the standard Hydros series. The reel includes a more ergonomically accessible drag knob. A refined seal on the sealed drag to protect the clutch bearing in the drag mechanism. That radiused reel foot for kink-free leader protection. Above all, it’s still got the bombproof, truck-stopping, fully sealed Hydros drag system with stacked carbon/stainless steel disc washers and zero startup inertia. In matte olive with silver accents.

The New 2020 Hydros reel incorporates an improved seal carbon and stainless drag along with a reduction in weight balance for lighter fly rods. From Freshwater to the Saltwater Flats, the New Orvis Hydros III will match any fishing application and have the stopping power for the larger species in freshwaters. The newly upgraded sealed drag gives the angler a smoother and more powerful reel for protecting light tippet against larger trout and smallmouth.

Regular price $279.00The new Orvis Hydros Reel is the result of our own desire to make something great, that much better. We took a best-selling reel and removed unnecessary material to further reduce the weight while stiffening the narrow spool, which minimizes line stacking. We changed the drag knob to be more ergonomically accessible and comfortable to use. We further refined the seal on the sealed drag to protect the clutch bearing in the drag mechanism. We radiused the reel foot as on the Mirage for kink-free leader protection. The sealed drag with stacked carbon and stainless steel disc washers is still one of the strongest in the industry, with zero start-up inertia. Matte type II anodized finish, standard large arbor size which balances better with lighter-weight fly rod, and yet still offers excellent retrieval rates and less line coiling than standard arbor reels. Refinement and improvement are the hallmarks of quality. Matte black with silver accents, matte silver with charcoal accents.

Mirage LT features a lighter version of the sealed and maintenance-free carbon and stainless steel disc drag system that adjusts from zero to full drag in a single drag knob rotation. With zero start-up inertia and precise low-end control, it eliminates line shock and protects light tippets with the same silky-smooth drag, and yet offers more stopping power than you will ever need for trout, bass, pike, musky, or carp. 30% lighter and 30% narrower, the Mirage LT is made in New Hampshire by the same skilled American craftsmen that build the Mirage. The LT offers the same increased retrieve rates, reduction in line coil, and is machined from the same strong, yet lightweight, 6061 T6 aluminum barstock as the Mirage.
Ergonomically designed, machined aluminum handle. Quick-release spool easily converts from left- to right-hand retrieve. Type II anodizing.
